It’s easy to pick on someone like Matt OX, he’s younger than almost anyone else in the game, and compared to the multitude of rappers in the industry it may seem like he doesn’t fit. Naturally a born-killer like himself is going to attract tons of attention, good and bad, but regardless: Matt OX knows what he is all about and that exact attitude is what has carried him so far.
In a craft such as hip hop, originality and the pursuit of ones own story are cornerstones to a successful career. While many are looking to bash the young gunner, he’s focused on himself and more blessings to him for that. If more people followed their passions without paying an inkling of attention to all the haters, the world would be a much happier place.
“Only thing I care about is supporting my family and supporting my friends, and that I’m living,” he says, his hand casually playing with his long brown hair and occasionally pushing it away from his eyes. He is focused on pushing his game forward and with that, leaving his mark on the industry in a way that hasn’t been seen before. Although he takes inspiration from his many peers currently taking the scene, he has also studied the people and personas that have built such a solid base for artists like himself.
"Yeah I rock with Eminem, I like his old stuff. I mean Eminem he's tough, but for me rap can go 2 ways, there's melody rap and there's bars rap. For bars rap, he's one of the top, but for melody rap - I wouldn't say that. For the new wave, not at all, but for the older days and that bars stuff, yeah he's a legend for real. It's a new wave now, it's not on that bars stuff no more.”
Undoubtedly, Matt OX is surfing his own new wave and we can’t wait to see where it takes him.
